Midterm Project

如何你遇

在我最美

How to bring me to your attention

At the most beautiful moment of mine
为这

我已在佛前求了五百年

求佛们结一段尘缘

佛於是把我化做一棵

在你必的路旁

For this
I have prayed for five hundred years before Buddha

For a chance of worldly union with you

And Buddha turned me into a tree

Growing by the road of your journey
阳光下
慎重地开了花

朵朵都是我前世的盼望

In the sunshine

In full and careful blossoms

With every flower representing hope from my past life
当你走近

抖的叶
是我等待的

As you get closer

Please listen carefully

To trembles of the leaves

which are the enthusiasm of my expectation
而当你於无地走

在你身后落了一地的

朋友啊

那不是花瓣

那是我凋零的心

When you finally walk past, heedlessly

Falling behind you

My friend

Are not petals

But the withered heart of mine

Week 4

你好!

This week we have started to learn all about Time and Schedules. On Monday we had a check up over some of the various vocabulary we have started to learn such as: 起床,每天,半,大学,省后,学期,门,点,睡觉,才,刻,然后,图书馆,下午,喜欢,打球,写信。These are all expressions discussing time and college life, their English meanings are as follows: to get up, every day, half, college, life, semester, (measure word for school courses), o'clock, to go to bed, not until, a quarter (of an hour), then/after that/afterwords, library, afternoon, to like, to play basketball/badminton/tennis/table tennis, to write letter. I liked learning a lot about this lesson because it helped me with the previous lesson on learning more about how to talk on the phone and make appointments.

Wednesday in class, we discussed the International Festival that we have coming up on this Sunday, January 27, 2012. I am in charge of the Marketing sector for Chinese club, so for this event I am going to be taking photos of the different things that our club will be participating in, as well as manning the booth and I also created business cards that we will be able to pass out to the different visitors. In class, we played a review game on sentence structures and the proper order in which the nouns and verbs should be placed in the Chinese Language.

People, Time, Place, V

Friday, in class, we discussed the International festival in more depth and then had our speaking checkup! I had to say the following things by memorization: 我很忙,我今天八点起床,然后我迟早反,我正在看电视,我试点睡觉。

I am also continuing working on my Chinese script for my midterm project. Here we are repeating after a native speaker so that we can increase our pronunciation and anunciation of the tones in the Chinese Language. I have chosen a very beautiful poem called A Flowering Tree to repeat as my project, and have already developed the script it should be fun!

Week 3

你好马!

这是Ke Ni. This past week Monday, we started Lesson 9 on Phone calls, which entails things like, how to answer the phone, ask who's there, and to ask what someone is doing. For example:
你 在做什么?
我在上网。

你在忙马?
没有,我正在看电视呢。

请问您是那位?
我是爱文。
We took a check up on some of the vocab Hanzi, and beginning sentence structures and that wasn't too bad, however, I still need to work on some of my Hanzi recognition. I am trying really hard in 102, I just think that the difference between 101 and 102 is that the Hanzi recognition is more necessary than in 101 where we used mostly pinyin...so it is harder to get used to only using Hanzi and not relying solely on the pinyin for understanding.

Wednesday in class, we reviewed some of the sentence structures we have been learning. We also reviewed the V不V sentence structure: 在不在,是不是,对不对。Also, we talked about how to format the sentences for, Call me Okay? 给我打电话,怎么样? How to say slow down: 对不起, 请满点。We also learned how to have a conversation on the phone:

位,请问你是了老师马?
我是_______.
你忙马?
你有什么摄入马?
你正在做什么摄入马?
明天,给我吃饭,怎么样?
我的手机号码是_____________.
请下课以后给我打电话。

Friday, we learned how to talk on the phone some more, and call and ask someone if they were available for dinner! We had to practice with our 同伴, saying back and for a dialogue that allowed us to understand what time we would go to dinner, if they were busy, and who we were talking too! It was really fun and funny when the boys had to call 了老师。Also, we got our packets back and I need to work on my V不V sentences some more. A few practice examples are: 他的两个时候都是不是美国人。我们太一起去纽约,怎么样?

Overall, it has been a great week! I really enjoyed learning about how to answer the phone and talk to people about making appointments and whether or not they were busy. That is very useful information that can be applied to real life, and it will be beneficial in the long run!:)

Week 2

你好!

On Monday, we had a vocab check up that tested us on some of the vocab from lesson eight as well as some of the new sentence structures we have learned! I quickly learned that Chinese 102 is not as easy as Chinese 101, and that I need to study more for the quizzes. I got confused by some of the Hanzi:(
After that, we practiced the new sentence structure we learned using the V不V, for example, 是不是,有不没有。In Chinese the double negatives cancel out and make a positive when asking a question so that it can be a positive statement! I thought that was very interesting. We also played a game where myself, and three other opponents competed to see who could come up with the most sentences using the double negative structure, and I won! I was really excited about that. Some of the vocab that we learned for this week was: 认识,去, 上课,下课,以后,想,吃,饭,吃饭,今天,下次,怎么样,再见。

On Wednesday, we reviewed in the beginning some of the terms from section 8 and then took another check up quiz. I thought this one was a little bit easier than the one we recieved on Monday, however, it was still difficult. I am hoping the more I practice, the more I will retain and remember. We also learned that if you add 吧 to the end of most sentences it creates a question! I thought that was also another interesting fact to know. It makes it easier when you are creating sentences to know that that is a key word you can add to create a important sentence!

Friday, we learned more about what to expect when doing your blog posts, as well as dialogue back and forth about how to make an appointment. It was fun because we had to create a situation between our partners (there were three of us) between a dad, boyfriend, and girlfriend, and the boyfriend was asking the father's permission to take the girl out. Naturally, I was the boyfriend so it was really funny to write.

Overall, it was a difficult week, but worth it! I am definitely adjusting back to being in Chinese again after the long break, and look forward to what the term has in store! Also I have been attempting to learn how to play 对不起, on the guitar!

Week One- Chinese 102

你好吗!

I am officially in Chinese 102 now! That's right everyone, I have graduated from Chinese 101...I made it through! This is our first week back to school from break, and I must admit I am a little rusty on all of my hanzi characters...but it will all be okay! Since we only had three days of school this week (or two days of chinese class) we only had time to really review the first seven sections we had learned in Chinese 101 and then briefly touch on some of the new words in Lesson 8.

An example of some of the characters and sentences we reviewed were:

我的家有三口人。我的爸爸,妈妈,和我。我的爸爸,妈妈都是商人。

请问,( insert noun/place/thing here )在那人。

有点贵。

For homework, I had to do the hanzi grid sheet as well as sentence structures for Lesson 8! I'm excited to see what Chinese 102 has in store for me, and look forward to bettering my language speaking abilities!!

再见!
