Week 8

Ni Hao!

This week has been very busy, and hectic to say the least! However we have begun to learn some new vocabulary this week that really is helpful when describing your family and peers!

Monday, we learned some new hanzi from chapter 6. We started this after we took the new checkup on chapter six about family. Some of the radicals we learned were grain, moon, mei, silk etc. and how these are applied to the new vocab we are learning. Also we learned about how to say how many people are in your family: "Ni jia you jikou ren?" "Wo jia you #kou ren: baba, mama, he wo." This is great for applying to conversation starters when you are trying to get to know someone. The next thing we learned was how to say where is your family from..."Ni jia zai nar?" "Wo jia zai..." Lasstly, we were taught how to say the different members of your family in chinese, such as: baba, mama, gege, meimei, jiejie, yeye, waigong, nainai, he waipo.

Wednesday in class we took another checkup however this time it was over recognizing sentence structures in Chinese. Some of the examples of sentences were: "How many family members do you have?" "I come from Chicago" "My home is in Naperville", and "What does your father do?". For each of these sentences we were supposed to unscramble the Hanzi and put it in the correct order to formulate the correct sentence structure. After the checkup, we reviewed what we learned and then discussed it in class, and then partnered with our partners to review as well.

Friday in class we really reviewed everything we have learned, and Sun Laoshi helped us with that. She is great because she really cares for why people are taking Chinese, and wants everyone to get the most out of our experience!

I have started brainstorming ideas for my final project as well and have decided I think on doing a videothread on how to teach the Chinese riddle, ma ma qi ma.. Hopefully the class will enjoy it!!
