Week 8

你好!

This week was a review week for us, where we reviewed everything from Lesson 12 all the way to Lesson 8. For homework, we have recently signed up with mychineselab.com, it is an awesome experience where we can go on and do listening exercises to help review, there is an online e-book that we can use to help us, as well as, other awesome activities to preview for new lessons! Some of the sentences we reviewed from the different chapters were:

我可以上你的骒马?
每周那天你有课?
我上文你的可很难?
服务员,我要一杯冰水。
小姐,我要点菜。
一万汤。
两双筷子。
十个骄子。

Overall, I think that the checkups and listening excercises helped me a lot this week to remember the stuff we had just learned, as well as, learned in the past. I look forward to working with mychineselab more often!!

Week 7

我们一起跟被把!(Let's toast together!)
I have officially survived Week 7, which is all about making requests! Lesson 12 delves into a bunch of different questions relating to requests that you could ask someone. It also explains the term "optative verbs" which in this case are verbs that express wishes or hopes and are placed before the main verb to express wishes, desires, obligations, capabilities, possibilities, or to give permission.

要,想,应该,得,能,可以,会

yao- want, will, to be going to, have to, should

xiang- want, intend, would like to

yinggai- should, ought to, to be supposed to

dei- have to, to be required to

neng- to have to ability to, can, can (depending on circumstances), permission-may

keyi- permission-may, can (depending on circumstances)

hui-know how to, have the ability to, be likely to, will

we also learned some of the following phrases:

怎么说。。。
中文怎么说。。。
请说译本(一次)。。。
轻慢嗲日说。。。

我可以接你的车?
我有一辆车。

Friday in class we worked on our script discussing how to convince someone to let you use their car! It was really fun and funny too!

Week 6

你好!

I'm really hungry as I am writing this post, specifically due to the fact that Lesson 11 that we learned this week completely deals with how to order food at a restaurant, and the different types of food and drinks! I really enjoyed learning this lesson because it was interesting to finally have something to be able to use in my personal life when I go to a Chinese restaurant. Now, I will be able to order my meal completely in Chinese! What a cool thought:)

Here is an example dialogue that shows how a typical restaurant conversation might look:

Friday, in class we performed our skits that we had to memorize which included a dialogue between a hostess, a waiter, and a couple on their first date, as well as, a narrator. The situation was that the couple was on their first date and the hostess seats them at the Chinese Restaurant. However, the waiter gives them very bad service and so they have to deal with that. Overall, I would say that the class did very well!
